The word
1. (often jocular) euphemistic way of mentioning a rude, contentious, or taboo topic that begins with the specified letter: 'Not the `C' word!' (i.e. commitment); 'the `L' word' (i.e. love); 'the `F' word' (i.e. fuck);
2. news or information: 'the word on the street is'; 'The hot word is that she'll be visiting next year'
